Jarmo Hillo will continue the discussion from his keynote on High Performance computing with an in depth review.
Introduction of packet optimised and HW assisted multicore processors made it possible to push the performance and efficiency to a new level over a traditional CPU and NIC architecture. We have seen the processing environment transition from RTOS to a bare metal to Linux. Combining cloud compute and SDN technologies to packet optimised multicore SoC brings new challenges to maintain performance and efficiency in virtualised environment. Building a high performance and efficient data plane requires optimised processing, minimised SW overhead and maximal utilisation of HW resources.
